Nelson & Colne College gets Innovative Renovation
Nelson & Colne College has recently undergone an innovative renovation, incorporating the latest technology in interior design. The college required a versatile interior space that provided either an open-feel, well-lit space or a private student computer room adjacent to a meeting room, depending on the circumstances. In another area they required either an open-feel, well-lit space or a private student computer room adjacent to a corridor.
To bring this vision to life, Nelson & Colne College turned to Intelligent Glass to provide a smart privacy solution that suited their needs. The solution was found in self-adhesive switchable smart film technology, which allows users to switch between opaque and clear states with the click of an RF remote control button.
Intelligent Glass supplied and installed six pieces of Switchable Self-Adhesive Film to the existing glass panel partition, offering not only a quicker turnaround but also a more sustainable and budget-friendly option than replacing the glass completely.
The solution provides instant, convenient privacy on demand with no disruption to the students or staff. This is simply not possible with standard glass and frosted partitions, offering a minimalist style interior feature that stays opaque when turned off, and switching to clear when a current is applied. Working perfectly in a room of this size, Intelligent Glass’s RF Remote Controls can operate their Smart Film from up to 25 meters away. The option for wall switches or integration with smart speakers like Amazon’s Alexa for voice automated control is also available.
The installation took one day, with a team installing the retrofit film to the glass followed by electrical engineers wiring up the film and connecting the pieces to the transformers. Intelligent Glass was able to integrate the Switchable Film and Transformers into the space seamlessly using trims to hide the wiring. The transformers were then hidden up in the suspended ceiling out of eyesight, with the potential to be located up to 10 meters away from the partition if necessary.
