Rural Barn Sunblock & Privacy with Switchable Film

The owner of a residential barn in Ware, UK wanted a product which can reduce the heat from the sun during the day and switch when required to give complete privacy at night through double-glazed units at the entrance to their barn.

Our self-adhesive switchable smart film transmits over 88% of light when switched on (transparent) and transmits over 60% of light when switched off (hazed/private). Up to 98% of UV is also blocked in both states.

We manufactured and installed self-adhesive switchable smart film to the interior side of eight newly-fitted 30 x 200 cm double-glazed units. All the sections of film are electrically connected at the top to the same 50V (200VA) transformer and controlled by a ground level wall switch. When the power is switched on the film becomes transparent. The transformer comes with a 3-pin plug attached which was removed and wired directly into a fuse spur.

Our installers worked with the the customer to determine a safe and effective way of installing the smart film at height using scaffolding without causing damage, especially near the stairs.
