Switchable Entrance in Modern Wales Home
With summer around the corner homeowners are making the most of the longer days by bringing the outside in. From installing bi-fold doors to creating cosy outdoor seating areas, there are many ways you can connect more with the outdoors, one of them being by using switchable technology. Switchable Glass is ideal for use in areas that wish to achieve privacy but don’t require a blackout solution, including everything from bathrooms, sunrooms to living rooms. Using Smart Glass in place of curtains and blinds allows you to benefit from an abundance of natural light with the option of privacy at any time.
Whilst our previous projects speak for themselves, we don’t talk enough about how simple it can be to integrate this into your home. In this particular project, we supplied three pieces of our self-adhesive Switchable Film for installation into the entranceway of a residential property in Conwy, Wales. This modern home boasts three side-by-side glass panels creating a stunning almost 1914 x 1968mm space that floods light into the hallway. However, due to its location directly opposite the staircase, the owner sought after a solution that could offer privacy when needed without ruining this desirable architectural feature.
Ticking all of the boxes, our Switchable Film was selected as the best product for the job, offering a minimalist privacy solution that could be retrofit to the existing glazing to control the clarity on demand. Not only was it not necessary to completely replace the perfectly good existing glazing, but our customer was also able to install the Smart Film himself with the help of our easy-to-follow installation guide. We supplied the Switchable Film, custom cut to fit the windows as well as the transformer and our specialist sealant, with the customer making his own custom trims to match the existing glass framework.
In residential installations, it’s of utmost importance for our smart glass products to integrate seamlessly into the surroundings with no electrical fixings on show, that’s why our transformers can be installed anywhere within 10m of the smart glass, allowing for more flexibility in hiding it within your interior. This ease of integration also influences the ways in which the film can be operated, with a range of options suited to different requirements. The most popular choice is the use of an RF remote and receiver which can operate our switchable solutions from up to 25m away, but other options include a wall switch and the convenience of voice automation using popular household smart home assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant.
Whilst one of the key benefits of switchable technology in our opinion is removing the need to compromise between privacy and natural light flow, there are many other ways Smart Glass can make your house feel like a home. Our smart glass reduces solar heat gain by up to 30% to make your home more energy-efficient & regulate the temperature, as well as having the ability to eliminate glare without plunging the room into darkness. We can also custom cut our switchable film to many shapes and sizes suiting applications to skylights, gable end windows and much more.
